Moments Matter

Snow days are the best days!

I have always been giddy when handed a snow day.

This year is no different.

As a matter of fact, I have cherished this year's snow days more than ever.

(even though we've only had two....)

It is Courtney's Senior year in high school, 

and I don't know when we will have our "Last Snow Day."

That's the thing about "lasts;" 

you never know when they are actually the last.

I don't recall the last bottle I gave her or the last time she let me rock her to sleep.

They happened, though.

I don't remember the dates of the "lasts" of many things for either of the kids,

but I know that they happened.

As the kids grew up and needed us less and less,

the number of "lasts" increased.

My point is this:

I don't know when I will have my last snow day with Sister,

so my plan for each of them this year is to just be with her.

...to visit

...to giggle

...to eat junk food, comfort food, and amazing dessert

...to drink coffee and cocoa

...to watch movies 

...to visit some more

Moments matter.

They come and they go in a blink of an eye.

I think that my babies grew up in a blink as well.

I'm so incredibly proud of the humans they are becoming, 

but at the same time, I'm holding on to every little moment I can have with each of them!

Enjoy every moment, friends.

Each is delicious in it's own way.

In like a Lion

The month of March certainly came in "like a Lion!"

The entire winter has been bitterly cold and snow-filled.

March 2nd brought another winter storm warning

Complete with freezing rain, sleet, and snow.

At one point it was raining Sonic ice.

Needless to say, we had another snow day.

It was our 11th for this year.

I made our traditional snow day muffins.

 

We built a toasty fire in the fireplace.

 

We had a movie marathon that went on and on and on.

We baked a special dinner complete with homemade bread.

We hope it was our last snow day of the year.  

This makes our last day of school May 30.

I know that many of my friends and coworkers 

complain about snow days.

I know that snow days are also an inconvenience 

to those who work outside the education field.

I wish that everyone had the opportunity 

to stay at home with their kids, 

spending time together 

and just enjoying each other's company.

If they were able to do that, they would understand

My childlike excitement for snow days.

Snow days...even in March...are so delicious.

Snow Days

This has been a year for snow and ice in our neck of the woods.

We have had NINE snow/ice days already this year.

We had three of them just last week!

 

Don't misunderstand.

As most people already know,

I'm a SUCKER for a good snow day.

There's something about being "snowed in" that makes me sit back and relax.

I use the time to clean house, bake, read, watch a movie or play a game with the kids.

I KNOW that we are going to have to make them up at the end of May.

I KNOW that the kids won't want to be learning then.

I KNOW that we won't have a break between regular school and summer school.

I still.  love.  snow days.

 

 no expectations

 just breathe

 

Tomorrow's forecast is calling for 1-3 more inches of snow.

Last week's snow hasn't melted yet.

Here's to secretly wishing for another snow day

and putting spoons under pillows while wearing PJs inside out and backwards.

I can just imagine my students' faces as they received the phone call

 or saw our school name scrolling across the TV screen.

 

It is a wintry wonderland this morning.

Everything is covered with fresh, fluffy, perfect-for-snowmen SNOW!

Schools are out for the day.

The roads are "treacherous."

No need to go anywhere.

(except that orthdentist appt at 5:20 this evening.....)

 

Cinnamon rolls were baked and ready to be enjoyed at 6:30. 

What was I thinking? 

My kids didn't get up for that.

 

 

 

Isn't the snowfall pretty at 5 am?

This is a neighbor's house, but I love that tree. 

 

Going back to the 5 o'clock hour....

 

 

This morning one of our neighbors cleared our driveway with his 4 wheeler and blade.

I love that our neighbors still help each other.

We very quickly whipped up a batch of spicy pretzels to repay him.

We'll have to bake something yummy to share later.

 

Anyhow...

the spoons under the pillows,

the pennies taped to the doors,

the pajamas worn inside out AND backwards

all proved to work

THIS time.

 

I love snow days.

They are peaceful and quiet.

They are full of movies, games, and giggles.

Mr. Incredible rented a couple movies for us to enjoy today.

Isn't he the best????

I'm such a lucky girl.

 

Snow days are delicious!

Now, I believe I'll go make a batch of snow ice cream

and a batch of brownies.

Snow Day

Snow days are the bomb-diggity!  They allow you to stay in your pajamas, bake yummy food, watch movies, play games, and just do what you want.  We work on a little housework between the fun, but most of the day is spent playing in one way or another!  Yessssss.

The kids went back to bed after we got our call.  I have finished off my coffee.  I might just make another pot.  It is so much more enjoyable when I can sit in the big comfy chair. 

When the kids finally get out of their beds, Courtney will need to make her valentine's box, and Corbin ....well, he'll just need to play video games, I'm sure. 

In preparation for a cold snowy day, I made a big pot of Spicy Cheesy Chicken soup yesterday.  Yummy!  It was great last night, and I love the leftovers that we have for today.  I have ingredients to bake some Red Velvet Brownies with White Chocolate buttercream frosting, chocolate covered strawberries and some yummy double chocolate cupcakes.  My fun is all mapped out!  Mmmm..even snow days are full of deliciousness.
